Abrasive Wheel & HAVS Safety Training
Course overview
This course is designed and structured to provide training for individuals in the safe use of abrasive wheels and meets with the requirements of the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER 98) and The Use Control of Vibration at Work Regulations 2005.
The use of abrasive wheels comes under the scope of the Provision & Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER 98).
The HSE have also published guidance on what is best practice and how to comply with the law in HSG 17 “Safety in the Use of Abrasive Wheels” In relation to abrasive wheels, PUWER 98 requires, among other things, that all machinery is suitable for its intended use and is properly maintained, and that employees, including those using, mounting and managing the operation of abrasive wheels, are fully informed and properly trained in their safe use.
The practical element of the training will be conducted using the customer’s equipment and it is the customer’s responsibility to ensure the equipment is suitable for its intended use and is properly maintained and that all trainees are in possession of the correct Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for the type of tools they will be using.
Location
Classroom based at client or trainer premises with adequate room for all candidates. 240v power required for projector allowing power point presentations and training DVD’s. Large screen TV’s with HTMI connections are also acceptable.

Assessment
Throughout the training course practical assessments will be made followed by the multiple choice assessment paper.
A multiple choice assessment paper will be given at the end of the session. Successful candidates gaining 80 percent or over will be awarded an Abrasive Wheel & HAVS Awareness Certificate valid for 36 months.
The assessment can take place orally for those who have difficulties with reading or writing.
